There are various versions of the story of how the Junior Chamber Lodge No 8902 came to be formed but it is generally accepted that a group of Junior Chamber members attending the 1978 JCI World Congress in Manila were sitting by a pool, after a more than adequate lunch, discussing how they might best maintain the wonderful bonds of Junior Chamber fellowship when their days in Junior Chamber came to an end on attaining the age of 41.
- They soon discovered that several of them were also Freemasons, and the two organisations having so much in common, the idea a Junior Chamber Lodge was born. Over the next few months several meetings were held at the offices of the Junior Chamber organisation which were then in Rugby, Warwickshire. On hearing of the new venture a number of Junior Chamber members who were also Freemasons came forward to offer their support and the project rapidly gained momentum.-Junior Chamber Lodge was duly warranted by the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) and consecrated on 15th September 1979 in a Grand ceremony held in the main temple of the Edgbaston Assembly Rooms and presided over by the then Deputy Provincial Grand Master the late Right Worshipful Brother Thomas Arthur Wood, who became the Provincial Master following the death of his predecessor Sir Stanley Harley in October 1979. Twenty-nine of the Thirty-Four Founding Members were in attendance, along with well over one hundred visitors. Immediately after Consecration, W.Br Rudkin was installed as the first Worshipful Master of the Junior Chamber Lodge.
The first regular meeting of the Lodge was held in November 1979 at the Masonic Hall in Rugby, which became our first home. However four years later we moved to the Edgbaston Assembly Rooms which was our home for the next ten years. In 1993 the Lodge moved again, this time to the Knowle Masonic Centre where we still meet today.
-The Lodge has been very successful with members and visitors travelling the length and breadth of the country to attend our meetings. Over the first ten years of its life 20 new members were initiated. Some ten years later, in 1989, a second Junior Chamber based Lodge was established in the Province of Yorkshire, Iuventutis Lodge No. 9338 was founded by past and current members of both Junior Chamber Lodge and the wider the Junior Chamber organisation today known as JCI UK.
-Junior Chamber Lodge No. 8902 is a Freemasons Lodge that meets at Knowle Masonic Temple, in the Masonic Province of Warwickshire, with our daytime meetings being held on the third Saturday of the month in February, May, June, September, and November.
-While our founding members were all past members of Junior Chamber this is not a requirement for membership and we welcome members from all walks of life.-Visitors from other Lodges in the Province, or beyond always find a warm welcome when attending our meetings.
We are a unique members’ organisation that has thrived for over 300 years. We have no political or religious affiliations, and have members of all ages, races, religions, cultures and backgrounds. Our ceremonial traditions encourage us to be more tolerant and respectful and actively fulfil our civic and charitable responsibilities.
Rather than working on buildings like the masons of old, today’s Freemasons focus on building themselves as people of integrity, and membership provides the structure to help achieve that goal.
With a membership of more than 150,000 people drawn from communities across the UK, Freemasonry brings people together irrespective of their race, religion or any other perceived differences that can divide us as a society.
To attract members from all backgrounds and walks of life, enabling them to develop into more thoughtful and confident people. To inspire and challenge them to practise the core values we celebrate – Integrity, Friendship, Respect, and Service – in their private and public lives. To cement our reputation as a force for good in our communities and society at large and as a thriving organisation that people aspire to join.
One of the oldest social organisations in the world, Freemasonry is not defined by an ideology. It is open to people from all religions and political persuasions and provides the common foundation for friendships between members, many of which will last for life.
Whether participating in events, fundraising for a charitable cause or volunteering for public or community organisations, service is at the very heart of Freemasonry. Our members make valuable contributions by donating time, resources and skills.
The Master is the presiding officer, and leader of the lodge, while the Wardens (Senior and Junior) act as his primary assistants, helping to manage the lodge proceedings, oversee ceremonies, and maintain order during meetings
